Characters: Isaac, Elle, OC x 2
Genre: Angst

I'll sing it one last time for you,
Then we really have to go.
You've been the only thing that's right,
In all I've done.
He allowed himself a smile, as he hovered nearby. Not literally--he was not Nathan Petrelli or West Rosen, thank God. He couldn't properly say he stood or sat, though, he simply watched the young blonde woman sprawled awkwardly on the floor. A small brunette babe made gurgling noises, and the blonde seemed to be mimicking the sound of a motor. Large plastic toys lay scattered and almost forgotten between the two of them. The brunette was dwarfed inside the older woman's legs, gleefully sending a miniature and malformed truck flying through the air with precise movements. The woman tried scooting her red Ferrari mock up along the floor as an example, before giving up and engaging the tiny car's secret 'fly powers'.
He moved to the table next to their frolicking, and sat down on the edge. He continued to watch in silence, as the young one lost interest in the semi truck, in favor of a bright green colored SUV. This one seemed to lack the super powered nitro, and was instead equipped with ultra four wheel drive, plowing all over her mother's leg.
He chuckled, as the blonde woman made a noise of distress, and cried for the help of another discarded toy. Her hair had fallen out of the messy bun she had twisted it into, and now a lock of gold fell across her face. She shivered as he brushed it behind her ear. The young one abandoned her conquest of the mother's leg, looking up at him in fascination.
Her mother smiled, ruffling the young one's hair, before turning toward the table he sat at. "She's grown up so well. Look at her. She has your nose."
"She's as beautiful as you." He replied softly.
"Do you want to play with us, Daddy?" Her blue eyes shone with such a beautiful innocence, that he could never say no.
"Yeah, honey, do you wanna play with us?" Her voice was thick with tears, and tired blue eyes reflected the light of too many years in hiding. "Molly saved you the red pick up."
He slid off the table to his knees, hand slipping through the designated toy light water. Molly did not even blink before picking the toy up herself.
"I'll do it for you, Daddy, don't worry."
He nodded softly, ruffling her hair, and leaned to kiss the temple of the blonde woman. "I still love you, Elle."
A tear slipped down her cheek as if she had heard him. "I love you, too."
And I can barely look at you,
But every single time I do,
I know we'll make it anywhere,
Away from here.
She looked so regal, standing before the rag-tag group of rebels. Her smile seemed to make the chill of the cave fade into nothing, and lent strength to those it shone upon. Him most of all. Her clothes weren't the most remarkable thing to look upon. He knew she always loved her expensive clothes, but she had never once complained about what she ended up wearing to lead the people gathering around her.
She looked so much thinner than he remembered, so much more tired. But still she smiled her reassuring smile, and everyone believed her that it was going to be alright. He believed her. The dark haired beauty that stood next to her, handing out rations believed her.
He made his way carefully through the crowd, minding not to jostle anyone he passed. She was kneeling next to a young brunette, offering her a tissue to wipe away lingering tears, and a cup of water.
"It's going to be okay, baby." She said softly, running a hand through the girl's dark curls. "Mommy's going to get you some yummy cookies when we're done, okay?"
The girl nodded, bottom lip jutting out. "Is Daddy going to help? Can I help Daddy measure the eggs?"
She looked up, glancing around the crowd. "Daddy?"
The young one pointed to where he stood.
"Did you see it?" Her voice was barely a whisper, tears glistening in the dim lighting of the cavern. "I thought...what would you say?"
He made a soft sound even he could not decipher, before closing the distance between them and gathering her up in his arms, willing her to feel some measure of comfort.
"You were wonderful."
"Daddy says you were Won...Wander..."
"Wonderful." She said, smoothing the girl's hair, before giving a half sob. "I miss you."
"You don't have to miss Daddy, Mommy." The young girl smiled hopefully at her. "He's right here with us all the time."
Light up, Light up.
As if you have a choice.
Even if you cannot hear my voice.
I'll be right beside you, dear.
"Mom! Mom!" The dark haired young woman looked frantically around the chaos unfolding across the dusty expanse. Panic reflected in her eyes, and blood streaked her skin. "Mom, where are you?!"
He touched her shoulder, and she stilled, turning her head toward him.
"Dad...? Is that you?"
"I'm here, Molly."
Tears broke across her face once more. "Dad...it's Mom. I can't find Mom...What if she...Dad, I'm so scared!"
He touched her hand, pulling it ahead. "I know the way."
She looked strangely at her hand a moment, before following after him, forcing her way through the churning battle all around them, charging with single minded purpose. Elle lay on the ground only a few feet away, propped against a boulder, and nursing a nasty looking leg wound.
"Mom!"
He bolted across the short distance left, cradling her in his arms, as Molly tended to the wound, tears still staining her cheeks.
"Molly..." Elle smiled softly. "I knew you'd find me."
"It was Dad." Molly didn't look up from the wound she was healing. "He...I couldn't pin point you in this chaos. I felt...someone leading me here. Dad brought me here." Her voice broke off and faded.
Elle offered a watery smile to nowhere in particular. "Isaac..."
"I'm still right here, Elle." He said softly. "I'm always going to be here."
She smiled contentedly, as Molly helped her to her feet. "I think this is one battle...we are going to win."
Louder, Louder.
And we'll run for our lives.
I can hardly speak, I understand.
Why you can't raise your voice to say
A scream echoed through the caverns. "MOLLY!" Thick plumes of smoke filled the air so completely, he was almost surprised he didn't choke himself. The settled rocks shifted slightly under the onslaught directed at it from the other side.
The young woman trapped on the smaller side huddled in the back corner, knees to her chest, and grey-blue eyes wide, echoing the terror that coursed through her. He frowned softly, making his way across the broken ground, and kneeling in front of her.
Her soft eyes focused on him slowly. "Dad...?"
"It's okay, Molly, I'm here." He brushed a few strands of hair from her face, frowning at the streak of blood that followed it. "I'm not leaving you."
"I'm scared, dad." Her voice wibbled, and she winced as the cave shifted again.
"Don't be." He pulled the thirteen year old out of her tiny alcove and into a tight embrace, shielding her with himself. She clung to his shirt desperately, shoulders trembling, as he pet her hair soothingly.
"Mom misses you...She talks about you all the time now."
"I know."
She swallowed, looking up at him through tears. "She needs you."
"You need me."
She nodded. "Will you stay with me until they get here?"
He smiled. "I'm going to stay with you forever."
She returned his smile. "I'm glad you're here, Dad."
"So am I."
To think I might not see those eyes,
Makes it so hard not to cry.
And as we say our long goodbyes,
I nearly do.
She was gorgeous. Flawless. Her long hair was let down to rush along her back, perfect for blowing in the wind, and twisting and tangling in the night. Her skin never sported a single blemish--maybe it was a side effect of her never wishing to look even a day older. Now, she didn't look old at all.
She looked determined, steady, strong.
He reached to take her hand, squeezing it lightly as the two brunettes flanked the bed she lay on. Her blue eyes were still bright and piercing, as she turned them between the two. She was everything a woman could ever hope to become.
"Is he here?"
Molly nodded softly, tears glistening on her cheeks, and motioned to where he stood.
She smiled softly, turning to face him. "I'm so...so happy you're here. I wish...I wish I could see you, but I don't need to. I don't need to see or hear you to know you're there. To know you still love me." He voice choked with tears, and a shaky hand came up to wipe away those that escaped.
"You've done...so much...so much more than anyone has ever done. For me, for Molly. For anyone."
He shook his head. "I only did what I had to."
"Stop arguing." She snapped. "I know you are, so stop it. You've got all eternity to talk...I...I only..."
"Mom..." The oldest girl's voice came out as a strangled sob. "Don't talk like that, okay? You're going to stick around. You can't leave us."
"It's alright, Molly." She smiled. "It's going to be fine."
"You're going to be fine, Mom..."
"I'm ready to see him again, Molly. I want to hold him, to tell him...how much...oh god..." She made a gasping sob.
"Elle!" He ran a hand along her forehead, shaking his head. "You can pull through this, Elle..."
"Isaac..." Her voice was a whisper now, as she turned back to him. "Whatever happens...I want you to know...I've always loved you. I never stopped. Not for one second."
A choked whimper filled the air, as he nodded. "I know, Elle...I know. I never doubted it."
"He says...he knows." The younger Molly was quiet, face pale, expression impassive. He says he always knew."
She smiled. "Good...I...just had to know...you knew."
He nodded, smoothing her hair. "I love you, Elle. I've loved you for so long, I can't even remember a time when I didn't love you. I do. Always."
"He says..." The younger Molly bit her lip. "He's always loved you, too."
Elle gave a soft sound of delight. "I'm...so...so...happy."
"Mom...?"
"MOM!"
Have heart, my dear,
We're bound to be afraid.
Even if it's just for a few days,
Making up for all this mess.
The smoke twisted into the sky like a billowing thunder cloud, spreading its wings for a final adventure. Five hundred members stood in silent vigil, to watch the final send off of their tiny blonde leader, who held such unshakable determination.
Two brunettes stood hand in hand ahead of all the others, wiping away tears as flames licked at the gigantic memorial of wood. The sound of weeping filtered through the air, and the two who stood as examples trembled in the effort of keeping their composure.
"Dad..." One whispered. "I need you."
He placed his hands on their shoulders, one on each, and pulled them in close for a tight hug, as he watched the remnants of the one whom he had loved the most in his life and his death faded away from the Earth. The girls were sobbing in his arms, incoherent half-formed words spilling freely into the night.
He wanted to share their pain, to weep with them, and lighten the burden, but the coldness that followed her departure from the world gave no leeway for tears. No chance for mourning. He squeezed their shoulders, and whispered a soft lullaby to both. A lullaby he used to sing while Elle slept and the babies had woken. Most of the time, it even worked.
"I'm here." He said softly, kissing the tops of their heads. "I'm always here."
"So am I."
He looked up in something like surprise, as a lithe figure made its way from the burning pyre to where they now stood. It...
"Elle?"
She smiled, moving to adopt a similar posture around the girl's arms. "You're not the only one whose love isn't ready to let death be an obstacle."
He smiled. "I love you, Elle."
Her smile grew, at hearing his words. "I love you, too."
The two Molly's looked between them leerily. "Are you going to...you're not going to leave us, now, are you?
Elle shared a private smile with him.
"Never."
Light up, light up
