She'd just about gotten bored, when the blue box-thing started making a ridiculous amount of noise. Sam frowned, and glanced over at her questioningly.
"That's one hell of a dial tone."
Candice frowned at Sam in confusion.
"It's a...pay phone booth, thing." Sam shrugged. "A really old one...but I recognize it from a program I once saw."
"What...on the History channel?"
"No."
"Discovery channel?"
"Okay, more important right now is that I'm pretty sure they never mentioned the disappearing for privacy option."
Candice stared in the direction Sam nodded, and caught the end of the whirling leaves. Where the box was decidedly not standing anymore. "What...?"
She hopped up from where she was sitting, and moved determinedly to where the box should have been. A few steps confirmed that it was most definitely not simply invisible or hidden.
"Brilliant."
[ooc: Okay, this just was not well written at all. Ah well. Not my day.]

He took her by the arm with a smile.
"We'll get that fixed up in a jiffy." He said, soothing her inner turmoil with the out reaches of his mind. This one would be easy. Filled with so much self doubt and low self esteem. He would crack her with the ease of a chef cracking an egg.
He stepped over Elle. The mother of the embryo he had stolen. Jesus, it wasn't even an embryo yet. By God he was an evil mastermind. It was almost a shame Sylar hadn't been around to see it. Despite only using the super evolved human, he had a certain amount of respect for him. He was an artist for one thing. That inspired the madness inside the Master. But more than that. They were alike. Both knowing they were better, both refusing to be held back by the structure of their society. It was a shame they would now be enemies.
The transmat beam was used once again, and the Master took Elle, Rose and himself to the Med Bay. He would check on Elle later. First to gain Rose's trust.
"So my dear, let's see about fixing that angry looking cut you have."

The Doctor seemed to spend a lot of time in the medical bay lately. It ought to worry him a little more than that. This medical bay was slightly different though. Less colours, less light, and no Master. But a Doctor, mind you. His voice was rough, as if restraining tears although the Doctor now knew that he would have never cried in his ninth regeneration.
He opened his eyes, tried to grin and failed. Too ambitious. He tried again, settled for a small smile. "Is it bad?" He asked conversationally. His head felt like it was going to burst open any moment. He couldn't regulate his body like he used to, thanks to his dear Master, only one heart. He wondered when Nine would discover that. Maybe he already had. A Time Lord with one heart was just as wrong as Jack, but not as lucky.

The Doctor was surprised by the other Doctors lucidness, even if he was obviously in some amount of discomfort.
"You'll live." He said, and it was true. The lack of heart was worrying, but survivable, but only if the Doctor stayed out of trouble. He moved to help his patient sit, slipping one hand to the small of his back, applying careful pressure, whilst the other grasped his arm and pulled as gentle as he could.
"You need to rest." He said, a Doctor first and foremost, the savior of the universe second. Not that he was at all good at that any more. He had hung up his hero cape and underpants, not so long ago, and he felt he no longer had the urge to don them again. This Doctor had to get well. This Doctor would save the day. Not him. And so he had to rest.

Jack wandered to the Med Bay. He might not be welcome there but he had to see the Doc wasn't going to die any time soon. He was still angry at him and doubted that would change any time soon but he didn't want him hurt.
He was angry at having left Rose behind and guiltly too. He had only gotten a glimpse of what that alien was capable of doing. Such a fragile mind had humans, especially those of the young and of this time period. Sooner or later the Master would break her and that thought was unbearable.

His head felt a bit fuzzy, his limbs wobbly, but he clung to Nine's arm. The words had a very different connotation in his mouth, but the Doctor still pictured the Master bent over him with that insane grin of his. You need to rest Theta. He released Nine's arm brusquely and almost fell back on the bed.
"No rest for the wicked," he said, shaking his head. Nine gave him a look. "It's an Earth saying, you know? Hardly surprising when you think of the tenacity they put into everything they do, even evil! But I prefer when they are not evil. And I would like the Master not to be evil, but that's never going to happen is it?"
Maybe he was in shock, otherwise how could he utter so many words in so little time? It suddenly hit him that this was how he was supposed to be. It was the personality he had chosen to display, the way he had chosen to become when he had regenerated. He grinned, even though his heart faltered.

The Doctor looked at the babbling man before him. He had the air of a wilted flower, once bright in it's bloom, but now eaten by the frost. People may stare upon this Doctor and think him healed, but Nine realized for the first time in that second that he was far from it. His future didn't seem as colorful as he had first thought.
He helped him back up again, physically strong, with fingers that bore the memory of long days work under the console. He held him up, shifting his balance so he would not fall down again.
"The Master..." That was a touchy subject. So many good times. So many battles waged and lost. Though the Master never won, he never returned to the fold. But then, neither did he. He wanted to tell him that it would all be fine. That they would fight the Master and be victorious. They would prosper and no one would ever die or be hurt. It was what his Future Self needed to hear. It was what he himself needed to believe. He could not.
"Rest. Doctor's orders." He showed him a grin that was becoming all too much of a habit. It fooled everyone, but he could never fool himself.

She nodded, biting her lip.
"Is it even needing to be fixed? I mean, it stings but not agony."
She brought her hand up to touch her cheek lightly, wincing at the pain. She felt calmer somehow. Though she still didn't trust him that much.

"Now now, we can't have a mark like that marring your beauty now can we?" He smiled, a politicians smile and pulled out the dermal regenerator. It glided over her skin like butter, sealing the wound up in it's wake.
He placed the device down with a sigh. She was fixed, and she was quickly losing her interest. She was easily cracked, and would only be broken when the time was right. He coouldn't do with all that clinging and kissing and teen fluff. Instead, he wanted to play with Sylar.
He turned on his heal, not caring if she followed or now. She couldn't do any damage to him or his ship.

Rose followed him straight away. It was still the TARDIS she traveled in, even if it was refusing to let the Doctor in. She put her hands in her pockets, keeping her eye on him. She had saw what he did to the Doctor and she felt anger rise up at the memory. Pulling her hands out her pockets, she reached forward to grab him, then slapped him hard.
"That's for hurting the Doctor."

Some things never changed. Looking at Nine's grin was looking into the mirror of his forced enthusiasm. It was the only way to keep going, the ultimate defense against the darkness eating up at him. Be cheerful, ignore the teared patchwork of your mind. The Doctor was familiar with the idea. He leaned on Nine's solid frame gratefully, ignoring the suggestion all together.
"It's a paradox you know," he said lightly. "I can't stay here." He tried to imagine two Doctors in the same TARDIS. It was brilliant, and it was the wrongest idea he had ever had. He shuddered and pulled away from Nine's embrace, supporting himself on the wall as he walked toward the console room.
His ninth regeneration, with the black leather and the big ears, and an overwhelming need to lie there and let the universe destroy itself. Oh did he remember that. Would it be cheating to steer him in the right direction? To ask him to go and see... Rose? To try just one trip with her? Would it settle down nicely in the wibbly wobbly fabric of time?

He turned and looked at her, not even registering her slap, his expression dripping with disdain.
"I have seen worlds fall. Do you really think I'm bothered by a stupid little human girl with ideas of grandure?"
He snorted.
"I fixed you, I can easily break you again."
He turned once more and walked away.

"You think you're so high and mighty yet I saw the way you were with the Doctor! You need someone there. You're scared of being on your own and you latched onto him. You're not as big and evil as you think you are!" she told him, walking behind him. "And I swear if you hurt the Doctor again it'll be more than a slap you'll get."

The Doctor tried to protest but he knew he was right. A paradox was bad. Very bad. Yet the prospect of having the other Time Lord beside him forever was something thats stirred him deep inside. He was not ready to be alone, and yet he was alone of his own making. But with the other Doctor here, he need never fake the smile that was etched onto his features.
So deep in thought was he, that he did not noticed the other Doctor pull away and try to escape.
"Come back!" He called, feeling the loss of contact much like the loss of ones limbs by force. He chased, and easily caught the Time Lord, for he was weak and frail. He placed a supporting arm around him once more and pulled him to a stop.
"Please. You're too weak to fight, and we don't have a plan."
He was too afraid of the Master and the universe and all that might go wrong to go running in there half cocked. It may be the way of things in times to come, but not now.

The Master was irritated by her. She was quickly growing to be bothersom, and far too much hastle when he had work to do. He had to fix the tardis, find the stray humans, play with Sylar and figure out who to use the fetus to get what he wanted. The ramblings of a lost, and somewhat stupid child were not really helpful. She didn't know the first thing about himself and the Doctor. He didn't need him. Quite the opposite. She was just thick, and irritatiing. So he ignored her.
